Colorado 83, Tulane 75

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) _ Erin Scholz scored 19 points and Raegan Scott added 17 as No. 17 Colorado used its inside presence to defeat Tulane 83-75 in the West Regional of the NCAA women’s tournament Friday night.

The Buffaloes (26-8) won despite shooting 58 percent (22-of-38) from the free throw line. Colorado is 13-3 on its home court this year and 6-2 in NCAA tournament play.

Tulane (21-10), an at-large entry from Conference USA, was making its second straight NCAA appearance. Mary Ann Marino led the Green Wave with 19 points and Christy Thomaskutty added 17. Center Barbara Farris had 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Colorado took a 39-32 lead at halftime with a 25-12 run that lasted nearly 10 minutes. Two free throws by Erin Scholz began the surge, giving the Buffaloes a 10-8 lead and De Celle Thomas completed it with two free throws and Colorado had a 33-20 advantage.

Thomaskutty had four of her 10 points in the final five minutes of the half and cut Tulane’s defecit to seven points at intermission.

Scholz’s 15-footer gave Colorado a 60-46 lead with 13:11 left in the game. Lowry, who had 12 points in the second half and Farris, who had 11, kept the Green Wave close, but they never got the lead under seven points in the final 11 minutes.
