RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Two students from Charlottesville and Williamsburg will represent Virginia in the 53rd Annual United States Senate Youth Program.

David Patterson Cohn of Charlottesville High School and Caleb Alexander Visser of Jamestown High School in Williamsburg have been chosen to participate in the program.

U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine say in a news release that Cohn and Visser will spend a week in Washington, D.C., in March. Activities include major policy addresses by senators and cabinet members. The students also will meet with a U.S. Supreme Court justice.

Cohn and Visser each will receive a $5,000 scholarship.

The Virginia Department of Education chose the students based on community service, academic performance and involvement in extracurricular activities.
