Republicans Beat Dems in Baseball
BOWIE, Md. (AP) _ Republicans savored their last win with Steve Largent on the mound, beating the Democrats 9-1 in the 40th annual congressional baseball game.
Largent struck out eight, allowed five hits and no walks. The NFL Hall of Famer is resigning his House seat Nov. 29 to run for governor of Oklahoma.
Largent said he didn’t think much about Thursday night’s game being his last. ``It’s not like my last game in the NFL,″ the former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver said with a grin.
Sponsored annually by Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper, the game at Prince George’s Stadium benefits charity.
