Havasu boys soccer routs River Valley, 11-0
It took some time to shake off the rust, but the Lake Havasu boys soccer team found its form in the second half against River Valley, cruising to an 11-0 victory in Mohave Valley on Monday night.
Julio Barrera scored a pair of goals in the first half to give the Knights a 2-0 lead at the half, but the floodgates broke open in the second half.
“We missed a million goals (in the first half),” Havasu coach Christina Gibbs said. “Getting back into it after having two weeks off took us 40 minutes.”
Johnny Perez scored four goals after halftime, Barrera scored another to complete his hat trick and the Knights got goals from Peyton Luzzi, Gabe Balderrama, Randy Gallegos and Bryson Chalfant to complete the rout.
The Knights (6-0), ranked No. 7 in 4A, have scored the most goals in the conference and have two of the top three point scorers. They enter the toughest stretch of the schedule in the next few weeks, playing No. 5 Desert Edge and No. 6 Peoria before the end of the month.
Havasu’s next contest comes against Lee Williams in Kingman on Wednesday. The Vols tied Havasu 2-2 in the ohave County tournament last month. Mohave, which handed the Knights their only loss of the season in the same tournament, comes back to Lee Barnes Stadium next week.
“(Lee Williams) was a pretty physical game,” Gibbs said.
“I think we’re all looking forward to playing that game again.”
The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday in Kingman.
