Cabell Midland boys defeat South Charleston in basketball

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Ty Sturm and Chandler Schmidt scored 16 points each to help Cabell Midland (6-0) defeat South Charleston 60-53 Thursday night in boys high school basketball at the South Charleston Community Center.

Jake Edwards scored 12 points. Tyler Straub grabbed 11 rebounds to go with seven points.

“Tyler was the star of the game, really,” Knights coach Rick Chaffin said.

Quaysean Sutton paced the Black Eagles (2-3) with 16 points. Myles Lee scored 12.

Cabell Midland returns to action at 7 p.m. Saturday at home against Spring Valley (3-2).

SPRING VALLEY 67, WARREN 60: Senior guard/forward C.J. Meredith continued his torrid scoring with 30 points to lead the Timberwolves to a victory over the Warriors in Vincent, Ohio. Meredith also grabbed seven rebounds. Graeson Mala-shevich scored 19 points and issued six assists. Chase May-nard scored 11 points, pulled down six rebounds and handed out five assists.

ST. ALBANS 52, HURRICANE 51: Rodney Toler scored 16 points and Jaimelle Claytor 15 as the Red Dragons (5-2) knocked the Redskins (7-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten. Joe Muto scored 18 points for Hurricane. Austin Womack chipped in 12 and Austin Dearing 11.

FAIRLAND 70, GALLIA ACADEMY 28: Harlie Lyons made six of seven 3-point attempts and scored 18 points as the Dragons (6-3) blasted the Blue Angels (4-5) in Centenary, Ohio. Kelsie Warnock scored 13 and snared six rebounds. Allie Marshall scored 12 and snagged seven rebounds. Brooklyn Hill and Maddy Petro paced Gallia Academy (4-5) with nine points each.

Lauren Hudson scored 11 and Emily Hudson 10. Nadia Legros led Hurricane with 26 points. Callen Bostic scored 12.

SOUTH POINT 41, IRONTON 29: Ashley Perkey scored 12 points and collected eight rebounds as the Pointers (7-1 overall, 4-0 Ohio Valley Conference) defeated the Fighting Tigers in South Point, Ohio. Emilee Carey scored 11 points, nine in the first quarter as South Point built a 14-8 lead. Riley Schreck paced the Pointers with 12 points.

WHEELERSBURG 55, MIN-FORD 42: Ashley Blankenship scored 17 points and retrieved 11 rebounds to lead the Pirates to a victory over the Falcons in Min-ford, Ohio. Kaylee Darnell scored 20 and Abbie Kallner 17, including her 1,000th of her career. Minford was led by Caitlyn Puckett’s 12 points.

TOLSIA 58, SHERMAN 38: Sarah Jude scored 18 points and pulled in eight rebounds to lead the Rebels (6-2) to a triumph over the Tide (5-2) in Glenhayes. Lynndsey Cassell and Julie Boone scored 10 each. Selena Browning grabbed nine rebounds, gave seven assists and scored eight points. Dejah Busby led Sherman with 13 points. She was backed by Caroline Nelson with 11 and Hailee Skeens with 10.
