Janmaat out of Dutch squad with hamstring injury
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Newcastle defender Daryl Janmaat has pulled out of the Netherlands squad for two European Championship qualifiers after injuring his hamstring.
The Dutch football association says coach Guus Hiddink has called up Augsburg defender Paul Verhaegh as a replacement.
Janmaat was a regular starter for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil, where former coach Louis van Gaal led the team to the semifinals. Verhaegh also was a member of the World Cup squad, replacing Janmaat in the second-round victory over Mexico in Fortaleza.
The Netherlands team, which lost its first Group A qualifier to the Czech Republic, plays Kazakhstan on Friday in Amsterdam before traveling to Reykjavik to take on Iceland on Oct. 13.
