New Stamford health center celebrates opening
STAMFORD — A new health center is opening downtown, but at an unveiling event on Tuesday, the star of the show was the woman who made it a reality.
Adele Gordon was heaped with praise by the large gathering for her role in bringing the Community Health Center to Stamford and Fairfield County.
In the early-2000s, Gordon contacted the Middletown-based CHC about partnering with her practice, the Dental Center of Stamford. The marriage turned into a fruitful one, as the organizations merged in 2005. Once medical services were added in 2009, the center became known as The Franklin Street Community Health Center, one of roughly 14 CHC locations across the state.
Gordon was instrumental in creating the new location, on 5th Street in Stamford, and also helped grow CHC in Fairfield County, where two more centers are located in Norwalk and Danbury.
The new center has about 18 exam rooms, and will be the main CHC location in the city. The dental program, however, will remain at the Franklin Street location.
The new Stamford Community Health Center will officially open early next month.
