5 Pakistani children killed after falling down well
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — A Pakistani official says that five children died after accidentally falling down a well in the country’s northwest.
Bilal Ahmed, a rescue official, says the children were part of a group of students sitting on a concrete slab on top of a well in the town of Pasht Khara on Tuesday.
They were studying the Quran, Islam’s holy book, when the slab collapsed into the well below. Fifteen kids fell in. Ten were injured, and five killed.
Rescuers rushed to the scene, and Pakistani television showed images of people crowded around the well with ladders reaching down inside.
The village is roughly 10 kilometers (six miles) from the city of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
