Big Brothers Big Sisters tree sale begins today

HUNTINGTON - The annual Christmas tree sale, the largest fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State, begins Saturday, Nov. 24.

All trees are freshly cut and are shipped from Floyd County, Virginia. Back by popular demand are the white pine, Scotch pine and Fraser fir. New varieties include concolor fir and Canaan fir. Fraser fir wreaths will also be available.

Trees can be purchased from three area lots:

n HIMG on U.S. 60 East in Huntington

n The old FoodFair lot at 1st Street and 6th Avenue in Huntington

n The Ashland Tennis Center, 13th Street and Oakview Road

Hours are from noon to 9 p.m. weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends.

According to Patti Price, executive director, more than 600 volunteers from clubs, organizations and businesses are assisting with the sale, and all proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Tri-State. Big Brothers Big Sisters serves children through the mentoring of adult volunteers on a one-to-one basis.

Volunteer teams are also needed to help sell trees for three-hour shifts. Groups, organizations, businesses, friends and families are encouraged to volunteer.
