Fitchburg State’s McGrath, Platt Honored

FITCHBURG -- Fitchburg State goaltender Brian McGrath has been named the MASCAC Ice Hockey Goaltender after a pair of terrific outings last week.

The sophomore posted 81 saves with a .964 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average in a 1-0-1 week for the Falcons. McGrath stopped 52 shots in a 2-2 overtime draw with Plymouth State on Thursday, while adding 29 saves in a 4-1 victory against Anna Maria on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State ice hockey team (2-2-1, 1-0-1 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as it travels to Framingham State for a MASCAC matchup, starting at 7:30 p.m.


Platt collects first honor with Falcons


Fitchburg State junior guard Kewan Platt has been named the MASCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

The first-year Falcon earned the award for the first time, averaging 24 points, 12.5 boards and 1.5 assists per game in a 1-1 week for the Green and Gold. Platt registered 15 points, seven rebounds and one steal in an 87-64 setback to Rhode Island College on Thursday before adding a double-double of 33 points and 18 caroms to go along with three assists and two blocks in an 85-74 victory against Lasell College on Saturday.

The Fitchburg State men’s basketball team returns to action on Tuesday at it hosts the Bison of Nichols College at 6 p.m.
