BARBOURSVILLE — The Huntington Mall Books-A-Million store and its customers recently donated 659 books to Cabell County Schools students.
Jennifer Bare, Books-A-Million general manager, presented the boxes of books to Superintendent Ryan Saxe and the school district leadership team at the store on Wednesday.
“We so appreciate this generous gift from a valued community partner,” said Superintendent Ryan Saxe. “Books-A-Million worked with our instructional staff to offer customers a menu of books they could choose from to purchase for donation. All the books are supportive of building literacy skills. The customers’ response to this appeal was overwhelming and, for me personally, very heart-warming.”
So many books were donated, the district arranged for a box truck and two maintenance department employees to help transport multiple boxes to the Cabell County Schools Central Office.
Now, the books will be sorted and distributed to schools countywide, according to a news release from Cabell County Schools.
“The annual book drive is growing each year,” Bare said in the release. “We enjoy the event and our employees are very motivated to collect as many books as possible. We feel like it is a great way we, as a local business, can help students become successful readers.”
