LP boys soccer match starting earlier Saturday

La Porte’s varsity boys soccer match versus Northridge on Saturday will start at 10 a.m. and not 11 a.m., as originally scheduled.

Slicers volleyball cruises

La Porte’s volleyball team downed Mishawaka in three games, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20, on Thursday night on the road. Reilly Briggs led the Slicers (2-0) with 11 kills, and Kara Cooper had six kills. Lexi Joyner tallied five kills. Annalise Warnock, Paige Conklin, and Cooper each had two aces. Gillian Santana posted 13 digs, while Aniya Kennedy and Warnock each had seven digs. Cooper had four solo blocks, and Conklin recorded 29 assists. The Slicers host the La Porte Invite on Saturday at 9 a.m. at Slicer Gym.

La Porte girls soccer loses, ties

La Porte’s girls soccer team fell 11-0 at Valparaiso on Tuesday night.

The Slicers tied 0-0 at Kankakee Valley on Thursday night in a hard-fought game. La Porte out-shot the Kougars 21-7, but couldn’t finish. Gabrielle Latchford led the team with six shots, but couldn’t quite score. The Slicers dominated possession, and sophomore goalie Grace Holt had a strong game with seven saves. La Porte is looking for its first win on Saturday at Hobart.

Westville girls volleyball tops Whiting

Westville’s girls volleyball team edged Whiting in five games, 22-25, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-8, on Wednesday night. Leading the Blackhawks was Cassie Janis with 12 kills, and Ali Hisick had five kills, nine assists and three digs. Emma Ray passed the ball well and had five digs and three aces, and Madison Denecho posted six digs, three kills, and two aces. Libero Peyton Rodgers notched 14 digs.

Slicers girls golf schedule change

La Porte’s girls golf match versus Crown Point and Lake Central on Tuesday will now be played at White Hawk in Crown Point and not at Beechwood in La Porte.

Times for La Porte soccer matches switched

La Porte’s boys and girls soccer matches with Mishawaka will start with the varsity followed by a half of JV play. The Aug. 25 girls varsity match will begin at 10 a.m. CDT and the Sept. 22 boys varsity match will begin at 11 a.m. CDT.

South Central adds football game

South Central will play its Week 4 football game Saturday, Sept. 8, at North Knox. A Class 2A school located in Bicknell in southwestern Indiana, North Knox replaces Bishop Noll on the South Central schedule after Noll cancelled its varsity season due to a lack of players. The game will be played on Saturday due to the four-hour travel time and will kick off at 5 p.m.

7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K

The 7th annual Runnin’ for Prestin 5K/10K will be Sept. 15 in Washington Park, starting at 8 a.m. at the shelter by the splash pad. Proceeds from the run go towards pediatric cancer research at Riley Children’s Hospital. The race was named in honor of Prestin, who was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. He successfully battled the cancer and is now 17 and cancer-free.

Dates announced for 2018 Porter AM

The 63rd annual Porter AM golf tournament will be played the weekends of Sept. 8-9 and Sept. 15-16. The master division and women’s division will start at 8 a.m. Sept. 8 at Forest Park; the open division will start at 8 a.m. that day at The Brassie. Master division and women’s division will continue at 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Sand Creek; and the open division will continue at 11 a.m. at Valparaiso Country Club. On Sept. 15, masters and women will start at 8 a.m. at The Brassie; the open division will start at 11 a.m. at Sand Creek. 10th annual Bike Michiana for Hospice ride

The Center for Hospice Care and the Hospice Foundation announce the 10th Annual Bike Michiana for Hospice will take place Sunday, September 23, starting and finishing at the Center’s Mishawaka Campus next to Central Park, along the scenic St. Joseph River. La Porte Senior Bowling League fall meeting

The La Porte Senior Bowling League will have their annual fall meeting on Monday at 1 p.m. at Casey’s Lanes Bowling Alley.
