Marshall fans watch as the Herd takes on North Carolina State during a stripe the stadium game on Saturday at Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington.

HUNTINGTON — The Joan C. Edwards Stadium was decked out in game-day spirit as fans donned their green and white garb in an effort to “Stripe the Joan” for the home game against North Carolina State on Saturday evening.

The Thundering Herd also celebrated “Reggie Oliver Day” with a tribute to the Young Thundering Herd quarterback in the seasons (1971-72-73) following the Nov. 14, 1970, plane crash. A ceremony took place just before the 7 p.m. kickoff.

Oliver’s Young Thundering Herd teammates, coaches Jack Lengyel, Red Dawson and Mickey Jackson, and Marshall team captains Obi Obialo, Tyre Brady, Malik Gant and Chase Hancock represented Oliver for the game’s coin toss.

Oliver passed away Aug. 14 at age 66.
