January 28, 1995

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) _ Curtis Simmons scored 20 of his 24 points in the first half and led a charge at the outset that pushed Ohio University to a 96-59 victory over Central Michigan Saturday.

Jim Peterson scored a career-high 19 points, hitting five 3-pointers, and Gary Trent added 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Terry and Ed Sears each scored 10 points.

The Bobcats set a school record for assists in a game with 29. Jeff Boals and Mike Reese each had six as Ohio eclipsed the previous mark of 28, set against Miami of Ohio on Jan. 20, 1988.

The victory kept the Bobcats (16-4, 7-1 Mid-American Conference) tied for first place with Miami.

Simmons opened the scoring with a 3-pointer. After Vince Edwards, who led Central (3-13, 0-8) with 19 points, countered with a basket, the Bobcats reeled off the next eight points. Simmons scored seven of the first 11.

Ohio led 54-30 at the half and were never threatened in the second 20 minutes.

In addition to Edwards’ 19 points, Ryan Jansen had 14 points and Chad Guelda 11 for the Chippewas.
