Ex-chief of Bulgaria’s intelligence indicted
SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) — A former head of Bulgaria’s National Intelligence Service has been indicted by a military prosecutor in Sofia on charges of large-scale embezzlement.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that Kircho Kirov faces charges of embezzling public funds worth nearly 2.5 million euros over a period of five years ending in 2011.
According to the indictment, more than 1,000 false documents certifying nonexistent official costs were submitted.
If convicted, Kirov faces up to 20 years in prison.
