Carter, Cyrus playing for senior golf titles
SISSONVILLE, W.Va. — Pat Carter, of Barboursville, and Jim Cyrus, of Huntington, play Friday for flight titles in the West Virginia Senior Amateur golf championship at Edge-wood Country Club.
Carter, a 13-time West Virginia Amateur winner who turned 50 this year to qualify for the senior tournament, defeated Mitch Roush, of Mason, in the Championship Flight semifinals, 3 and 2. Carter’s opponent Friday is John Kingora, of Morgantown, a 3-and-l winner against Harold Payne, of Hurricane.
Cyrus beat John Cleavenger, of Lumberport, in the Gold Flight semis, 7 and 6. The other finalist is John Drake, of Cotta-geville, who moved past Charles Ballou, of Snowshoe, 1 up.
The pairing for the Silver Flight title is Jim Carpenter, of Martinsburg, vs. Richard Bolen, of Morgantown.
Carter shot a 6-under-par 65 Wednesday to claim a one-stroke victory over defending champion Payne in the stroke-play portion of the tournament.
