Grabner, Blanc Win Snowboard Races
BARDONECCHIA, Italy (AP) _ Austria’s Siegfried Grabner edged Germany’s Mathias Behounek on Sunday to win a parallel giant slalom in World Cup snowboarding.
France’s Isabelle Blanc captured the women’s event, winning for the second straight day.
Grabner, a specialist in the parallel events, topped his German rival in the final race. Sweden’s Stephen Copp edged Switzerland’s Simon Schoch to finish third.
Slovenia’s Dejan Kosir, the men’s overall World Cup leader, failed to qualify for the quarterfinals, a day after solidifying his lead in the standings. He finished second to Sweden’s Richard Rikardsson in the traditional giant slalom.
Blanc followed her giant slalom win with a victory in the parallel contest, outracing Italy’s Lidia Trettel. Austria’s Doris Guenther beat countrywoman Maria Kirchgasser for third place.
France’s Karine Ruby, who entered the race in first place in the overall women’s standings, failed to complete her opening qualifying run.
