Wayne Connelly -- Glendale, Ariz.

January 6, 2019

Wayne R. Connelly, age 76, of Glendale, Ariz., formerly of Elysian, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2018.

The funeral service for Wayne will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at St. John Baptiste de la Salle in Dodge Center, with Father Tom Neihaus officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church prior to Mass.

Wayne Connelly was born on June 27, 1942, to James and Violet (Hanson) Connelly at their home in Salem Township. Wayne grew up in the Dodge Center area and graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1960.

Wayne married Inez Schroeder on Jan. 12, 1963, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Owatonna. Together, they had five children and later divorced.

Wayne had a long career at E.F. Johnson’s and Waseca Properties in Waseca. He also drove school bus in Owatonna for many years and was beloved by the students. Driving school bus also afforded Wayne the opportunity to see his son participate in many school sports, which he loved.

Wayne loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. In the summers, he looked forward to hosting family at his lake trailer near Elysian, spending time playing cards and telling stories by the campfire. He endured many white-knuckled golf cart rides riding shotgun around the campground with his grandchildren and could often be found relaxing on his favorite porch swing. Wayne loved the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, whether it was fishing off the dock with his grandkids, or out in the boat with friends. He was an avid gardener, planting tomatoes wherever he resided. Wayne liked to spend his free time woodworking, having refinished many family heirloom furniture pieces, which we are grateful to have to remember him by, and serve as a timeless reminder of his generosity.

Wayne is survived by his five children, Julie (Allen) Klemmensen of West Concord, Dean Connelly of Owatonna, James (Sara) Connelly of Northfield, Diane Connelly of Rochester, and Daniel Connelly of Owatonna; five grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremyas) Schultz, Erin Klemmensen, Brendan Aug, Morgan Aug, and James Connelly; three great-grandchildren, Carter Peterson, Mackenzie and Makenna Schultz; sisters, Evelyn Kabage, Jeanette Grinager and Jane Tyler; brothers, John (Barb) Connelly, Richard (Charlotte) Connelly; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; and a granddaughter, Sara Connelly-Jones.

Memorials can be made to Mayo Clinic for Cancer Research or Mayo Clinic’s Poverello Foundation.
