Billy King Named 76ers’ GM
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Billy King, getting the stamp of approval from coach Larry Brown, was promoted Tuesday to general manager of the Philadelphia 76ers.
King, previously the team’s vice president of basketball administration, agreed to a multiyear contract.
``I feel very comfortable with Billy because Larry Brown feels comfortable with him,″ 76ers president Pat Croce said.
``Larry wanted him as G.M. a year ago, but I was concerned because I’d already had one strike against me with an inexperienced general manager,″ Croce said, referring to the hiring and then firing of Brad Greenberg.
King is a former defensive specialist at Duke who went on to become an assistant coach at Illinois State. His promotion to GM was announced as the 76ers broke ground for a new practice facility next season.
