Police: Coeur d’Alene officer shoots man thought to be armed
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say a Coeur d’Alene police officer shot a man who was believed to be armed and was not responsive to police commands.
KHQ-TV reports officers were called to a Coeur d’Alene apartment to a man reported to be suicidal and armed with a gun early Wednesday morning.
Coeur d’Alene police say the man exited the apartment and rapidly approached officers, ignoring their commands.
Officers fired a nonlethal beanbag round at the man, which police say had little apparent effect. An officer then fired his gun, hitting the man once.
The man was sent to the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound. Authorities say he is expected to recover.
Police have not released the man’s name or the officer’s.
Idaho State Police are investigating the shooting.
