MADISON - Road construction on North Main Street by Big Country Auto of Madison will be starting soon.
During the Board of Commissioners meeting Wednesday Road Superintendent Dick Johnson asked for a net contract increase of $24,416.
Johnson asked for the increase as it is going to cost more money to make sure there is access to the dealership during construction.
He says the county and the contractor will work together on the project to help save money.
“The county will bring in some dirt to fill the shoulder on the south side of the road, put crushed concrete on it, and have two lanes over there. The contractor will take out the north half. Instead of filling it in I’m just going to pay for an extra inch of concrete. Theoretically the contractor will come in and do the sub-grade prep, pack it, and pour it.”
Johnson says they will also have two sign boards telling courthouse traffic to use 829th Road and that the road is closed except for dealership traffic.
He says they will do the north side of the road first and then the south side with construction set to start later this month.
The board unanimously approved the net contract increase.
