FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) _ Northern Arizona’s Samaji Akili intercepted Rob Compson’s pass with 1:08 left in the game, sealing a 14-13 victory for the Montana State Lumberjacks on Saturday night.

Both quarterbacks had fared well until the interception. NAU’s Travis Brown completed 22 of 32 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown, while Compson was 16 for 25 with 177 yards and one touchdown.

Montana State (3-2 overall, 2-1 Big Sky) opened the scoring on Geoff Groshelle’s 43-yard field goal with 5:24 left in the first quarter.

On NAU’s next drive, Browns’ pass was tipped and intercepted by Tyson Tucker who returned the ball to the Lumberjacks’ 30.

The turnover led to a Montana State touchdown, with Compson hitting Scott Harry with a 7-yard pass with 14:55 left in the half.

Brown and Gibbons St. Paul hooked up on 14-yard touchdown pass on NAU’s next drive to cut Montana State’s lead to 10-7.

Groshelle converted another 43-yarder with 8:02 left in the half. NAU’s drove to Montana State’s 1, but had a field goal attempt blocked.

Brown’s 34-yard pass to Mike Lemos set up Brown’s 1-yard touchdown dive that gave NAU (4-2, 2-1) the lead with 10:18 left in third quarter.
