River Hawks Bounced in OT
BOSTON -- Working overtime continues to not pay off for the UMass Lowell hockey team.
Despite having a pair of two-goal leads, the River Hawks fell 5-4 to Northeastern when Patrick Schule sent a shot 2:14 into OT past Christoffer Hernberg during Hockey East action Saturday at Matthews Arena.
UMass Lowell (4-5-1, 1-3-1 HE) is just 1-8-4 in its last 13 overtime games.
The River Hawks led 3-1 after two periods and 4-2 early in the third, but couldn’t put the Huskies away.
The loss overshadowed another fine game for junior captain Ryan Lohin. Lohin, who scored twice in Friday’s 2-2 tie with UNH, added an assist and two more goals.
Kenny Hausinger of UML and NU’s Jeremy Davis traded goals in the first period. Defenseman Mattias Goransson and Lohin scored power-play goals in the middle period.
After Grant Jozefek cut UML’s lead to 3-2 just 1:30 into the third, Lohin struck again 2:47 in to regain UML’s two-goal lead.
But Jozefek scored 1:10 later and Tyler Madden’s 4-on-4 tally with 4:28 remaining forced overtime.
