WV drops Little League 9-11 opener
GREEN VILLE, N.C. — South Carolina edged the West Virginia champion from Barboursville, 3-2, in a Saturday game of the Little League Baseball (age 9-11) Tournament of State Champions at Elm Street Park.
The South Carolina team from Northwood Little League of Taylors opened the scoring with two quick runs in the bottom of the first inning.
West Virginia scored one in the third inning to cut its deficit to 2-1. South Carolina picked up a run in the bottom of the third inning to go up 3-1.
Another West Virginia run in the top of the fourth inning wrapped up the scoring.
Spencer Adderly was 2 for 2 at the plate to lead South Carolina. Other South Carolina hits came from Gregory Bryant (1 for 2), Dawson Siffri (1 for 2 with a double), Brady Smouse (1 for 2) and Gavin Weidman (1 for 3).
West Virginia’s four hits came from Cade Johnson (1 for 4 with a double), Corey Otzenberger (1 for 2 with a double), Riley Bowles (1 for 3) and Wyatt Goad (1 for 2).
Teddy Garner was the game’s winning pitcher.
West Virginia plays again at 3:30 p.m. Sunday against the Florida representative, Martin County North out of Palm City.
