BILL COSBY SENTENCING HEARING BEGINS TODAY

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) — Two lingering issues about Bill Cosby’s future have yet to be resolved: the length of his sentence and whether he’ll be branded a sexually violent predator. The answers to those questions begin to come today, the first day of a two-day hearing near Philadelphia. Judge Steven O’Neill can decide that Cosby gets probation — or up to 30 years in prison. Meanwhile lawyers for the 81-year-old comedian will try to persuade O’Neill not to rule that Cosby be labeled a predator. If the judge agrees with a state sex-offender board’s conclusion that he is, Cosby would have to get lifetime counseling — and people in his community must be alerted to his presence. A predator label could also be used as evidence in the many defamation lawsuits filed against Cosby. His civil accusers say he falsely dismissed them as liars when they told of being drugged and molested by him.

COSBY ACCUSERS HOPE HE WILL BE SENT TO PRISON

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two of the women who accuse Bill Cosby of sexual assault say they hope he ends up in prison. Lise-Lotte Lublin (LOOB’-lihn) and Chelan (shuh-LAHN’) Lasha spoke with reporters over the weekend, along with their attorney, Gloria Allred. They hope the judge will let them read victim impact statements before Cosby is sentenced. Lublin, who testified at Cosby’s trial in April, says she prays Cosby will get the 30-year max, saying “he deserves every year.” More than 60 women have accused Cosby of sexual misconduct during his 50-year showbiz career.

BOX OFFICE

NEW YORK (AP) — “The House With a Clock in Its Walls” has ticked off a box office win. The movie made $26.9 million in ticket sales in its debut weekend. At the same time, the horror movie is the only one of four new movies to woo audiences to a significant degree. Among the disappointments: “Fahrenheit 11/9.” Michael Moore’s documentary about the Trump administration took in $3.1 million. While that’s huge for most documentaries, it’s well short of the $23.9 million opening for Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11.” It made $222.4 million, a record for documentaries.

JAMES WOODS - TWITTER

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — James Woods apparently doesn’t want to get his Twitter account back. He’s been locked out over a tweet that Twitter says violates its rules. The tweet — posted in July — included a meme from a fake campaign encouraging men not to vote in the midterm elections. Woods says Twitter emailed him saying the tweet broke rules against misleading posts that could affect the result of an election. He says he was told he could get his account back if he deleted the post. But Woods tells The Associated Press that would violate his free speech rights. Woods is known for his conservative political viewers — and has more than 1.7 million Twitter followers.

BURT REYNOLDS FUNERAL SERVICES HELD

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Burt Reynolds’ ex-wife Loni Anderson was among the dozens of people who attended a private memorial service for the actor last week. Among the 80 mourners on hand Thursday was their adopted son, Quinton. Anderson told the gathering their son was their “greatest collaboration.” Reynolds died Sept. 6 at age 82. Neither family nor friends have disclosed a cause of death.

TIGER WOODS WINS FOR FIRST TIME IN FIVE YEARS

ATLANTA (AP) — For a while years ago, it seemed Tiger Woods could never lose a pro golf tournament. More recently, it seemed he’d never win another. But now, for the first time in five years, Woods has captured a PGA title. Speaking after winning the Tour Championship in Atlanta yesterday, Woods said, “I can’t believe I pulled this off.” At that moment, he paused, overcome with emotion. Woods’ win comes after four back surgeries, which he says left him unsure if he’d ever play golf again, much less be able to win at the pro level. He says being able to compete again is “a hell of a comeback.” Woods’s win is his 80th on the PGA tour, two behind the career mark held by Sam Snead.

MEGHAN MARKLE - BLUE

LONDON (AP) — You know the old tradition: a bride should wear something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue on her wedding day. Megan Markle is acknowledging she followed at least part of that formula when she married Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex says she had a piece of blue fabric from the dress she wore on her first date with Harry sewn into her wedding dress. She says this in a TV documentary about Queen Elizabeth II. Markle didn’t say whether she also wore something old, new or borrowed.
