Longmont Police Awaiting Reports to Determine Cause of Death for Woman Found on Main Street
Longmont police are waiting on reports to determine the cause of death of woman found dead on Main Street earlier this month.
Katherine Rogers, 55, was found dead in the 1700 block of Main Street, near the former Jack-in-the-Box restaurant, around 5:15 p.m. on Sept. 6, according to Longmont police Deputy Chief Jeff Satur.
Police do not believe her death was suspicious, but the cause is still undetermined as they wait for toxicology reports, Satur said.
In Longmont, police respond to public, unattended deaths about three times per year, though they usually happen in the winter. Often, those who suffer from alcoholism will fall asleep and fall prey to severe weather, Satur said.
“Often times, people living on the street don’t have the best medical care or the best health because of where they’re living,” he said. “Without intervention, sometimes it leads to tragic circumstances.”
Satur said that police would like people to take advantage of the various programs offered in the community.
“Somebody likely cared about (Katherine) and maybe didn’t know where she was at,” he said. ”... It’s tragic.”
