District survey to begin

The Watertown Unified School District Board of Education is planning to survey all residents of the district in the coming weeks to get input regarding the district’s operational funding needs.

The survey will ask residents their thoughts on a potential operating referendum to address the district’s projected $4 million annual deficit in each of the next five years.

The exact wording and amounts to be in the proposed referendum question have not been determined and will be based on the input the board receives from the survey.

The school board recognizes any potential referendum must reflect the priorities of taxpayers. Therefore, the district is urging all residents to participate in this districtwide effort as they prepare to make decisions regarding budget challenges

To assist with data gathering efforts, the Board of Education is working with School Perceptions LLC, an independent Wisconsin firm with expertise in conducting school district surveys. All survey data is returned to School Perceptions and all information will remain anonymous. Every household will receive a paper survey in the mail in the coming days. Residents can either complete the paper survey and mail it back to School Perceptions in the envelope provided or log on to the website listed on the survey and take the survey online.
