Rigby upsets Barbin to earn a trip to Harrisburg
The Republican challenger appears to have knocked off the Democratic incumbent in Pennsylvania’s 71st Legislative District.
With more than 99 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday night, Jim Rigby held a 11,187 to 10,074 vote lead over state Rep. Bryan Barbin. The district is mostly located in Cambria County with one municipality, Paint Borough, in Somerset County.
Rigby was not available for comment by press deadline. Barbin did not answer a phone call.
Rigby, a police chief in Ferndale, topped Stonycreek Township resident Justin Capouellez and Geistown Borough Council President Matt Sernell in the spring for another chance to face Barbin. It was Rigby’s fourth race against Barbin. He lost to the Johnstown Democrat, at times narrowly, in 2008, 2010 and 2014.
Barbin was seeking a sixth term in the House.
