September 5, 2018

Shoutfest, featuring national and local gospel recording artists, will celebrate its 10th anniversary Sept. 15.

The event, sponsored by WAAW Shout 94.7 FM radio, will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Perry Memorial Park at 720 Abbeville Avenue.

Shoutfest is the largest, free, outdoor gospel festival in the Aiken-Augusta area and perhaps in the region, according to a news release from the radio station. Last year, more than 6,000 people from across the region attended.

“This is a family event for anyone looking for good fellowship, good food and good fun,” said Donna Moore Wesby, the WAAW assistant general manager and sales manager and event chairperson.

Performers will include No. 1 charting female gospel artist Koryn Hawthorne; gospel music favorites Charles Jenkins, Jekalyn Carr and Bryan Popin; gospel music legend Dorothy Norwood; and about 25 other artists, according to the release.

Shoutfest will showcase nearly 70 food, merchandise and service vendors; a Kidszone with inflatables, obstacle courses and a construction workshop courtesy of Home Depot; and other activities.

Major sponsors for the 2018 Shoutfest are Augusta Regional Airport; Kenneth B. Johnson Insurance Agency; Cashwell Finance Company of South Carolina; Collette Ball Insurance Agency; Soul Note Entertainment; Za’Nee Entertainment; Howell Printing; McDonald’s, owned by Tom and Pam Powers; Bobby’s Bar-B-Q; and the Citizens Park Office and Conference Center.

As part of the Augusta radio market, WAAW Shout 94.7 FM is a 4,000-watt gospel-format station owned by WGIV LLC. in Charlotte, North Carolina. The station is at 2166 Park Ave. BJ Murphy is the general manager.
