Parnell, Sledge on Songfest Lineup
MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. (AP) _ The entertainment lineup for next month’s Songfest 2003 includes country-rocker Lee Roy Parnell, soul singer Percy Sledge and Backstreet Boys vocalist Howie Dorough.
Organizers of the Oct. 2-5 festival said Wet Willie leader Jimmy Hall and three members of the rock ‘n’ roll band Drive-by Truckers _ Patterson Hood, Jason Isbell and Brad Morgan _ also will appear.
The Muscle Shoals Music Association and the American Society for Composers and Publishers are presenting the second year of Songfest.
``Last year we laid a pretty solid foundation for Songfest, and this year we’re trying to build on what we started,″ festival chairman Rodney Hall, a music producer and publisher, said recently.
A tribute to Sun Records founder Sam Phillips will be held at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame in Tuscumbia.
Among other activities, there will be panel discussions at the University of North Alabama on songwriting and publishing.
