Falling debris leads to hiker’s death in Provo Canyon
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A visitor from Mexico hiking a popular waterfall in Provo Canyon died after debris fell on him.
The Daily Herald in Provo reports the accident happened Sunday afternoon as the 23-year-old man was climbing around Bridal Veil Falls.
Utah County Sheriff’s investigators say it appears a large log fell from above.
They say there is no sign that other hikers caused the log to fall.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon says family members tried to revive him but paramedics pronounced him dead.
Rescuers were able to remove his body from the falls. It is currently at the state medical examiner’s office in Taylorsville.
Authorities are not releasing the man’s name until family outside the U.S are notified.
He was in Utah for two weeks to attend a family function.
