TORONTO (AP) _ Lady Beverly took the lead at the start and held off a challenge by favored Primaly in the stretch by two lengths to win the $134,300 Selene Stakes at Woodbine on Saturday.
The daughter of Frosty the Snowman, owned by Daijyobu Racing Stable and trained by Gary Chan, covered 1 1-16 miles in 1:44 3-5 in the race for 3-year-old fillies.
Primaly sat in fourth place early, but made a move going into the far turn and closed in on Lady Beverly on the outside as the field straightened in the stretch.
Numberonedance trailed the rest of the field of seven most of the way before making a late bid and finished third, 5 3/4 lengths back.
Ridden by Na Somsanith, Lady Beverly won $65,580 to increase her career earnings to $188,035 with four victories and four seconds in nine starts.
Lady Beverly, who was bred in Florida, returned $9.60, $3.90 and $3.10. Canadian-bred Primaly paid $2.60, $2.10, while Kentucky-bred Numberonedance paid $3.30 to show.
