FLORENCE, S.C. – The Florence Cricket Club will host the first of what it wants to be an annual cricket tournament Sunday on its ground inside the Florence Soccer Complex.

Teams from Myrtle Beach, Columbia and Orangeburg will compete with the Florence club.

Competition will start at 8:15 a.m. with a match between the FCC Falcons and the Myrtle Beach Strikers.

Matches will follow at 10 a.m., 11:45 and 1:30 p.m. The championship match will start at 4;15 p.m. The event will end at 6 p.m. with a presentation ceremony.

The FCC started a year ago with only six or seven cricket enthusiasts. It now has 40 members.

This year the club procured a dedicated cricket ground inside the soccer complex (3701 W. Palmetto St., Florence) from the Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation and the city of Florence.

The club plays competitive games every Saturday morning and is trying to build a strong team to participate in tournaments in Charlotte, Columbia and Greenville.
