Irish Journalist McPhail Dead At 47
DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) _ Journalist Tom McPhail, former head and co-founder of Ireland International news agency, died Friday of cancer, the agency said. He was 47
Dublin-born McPhail was educated at De La Salle College and started his career working in 1969 as a reporter on the Drogheda Independent.
He went on to work as a news editor for both the Irish Press newspaper group and for Britain’s Granada Television.
McPhail and three colleagues founded Ireland International in 1982 to cover Ireland for British and foreign media. He retired in April, 1998, because of illness.
He is survived by his wife, Adelaide, his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral arrangements were not immediately announced.
