LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodger Stadium will host a World Series Game 7 for the first time in its history tonight as the Los Angeles Dodgers face the Houston Astros. The Dodgers are trying to win their first title since 1988, while the Astros are aiming for their first ever. Yu Darvish starts for the Dodgers and Lance McCullers Jr. for the Astros.
NEW YORK (AP) — Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame and Clemson are the top four teams in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the season. Oklahoma and Ohio State are the next two in the selection committee’s initial top 25. The final rankings that will determine the participants in the College Football Playoff semifinals come out Dec. 3.
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have activated linebacker LaRoy Reynolds from the injured list. After suffering a chest injury before the season, Reynolds returned to practice two weeks ago. He wasn’t eligible to play until Sunday’s game at the Carolina Panthers. Reynolds was one of Atlanta’s top special team players last season.
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio high school football coach has resigned after two seasons, saying he received death threats after his teams lost 18 straight games. The head football coach at Middletown High School (Lance Engleka) wrote in a letter to the principal that he refuses to tolerate the online death threats, attacks from parents and verbal abuse leveled at his family and coaching staff. He says “winning and losing at the high school level should not be a life-threatening situation.”
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The Olympic flame has arrived in South Korea, where it will be passed throughout the country by thousands of torchbearers on a 100-day journey to the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang (pyuhng-chahng). Preparations for the Feb. 9-25 games are being held amid tension over North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile tests.
