November 13, 2018

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies in South Carolina say a teen has been shot to death as he slept in his bed.

News outlets reported that Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies were called to a home around 3 a.m. Sunday near Summerville.

Coroner Paul Brouthers said 19-year-old Owen Chase Griffin died at his home. His body was sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy Tuesday.

No one else was hurt.

Brouthers said the shot was fired by someone driving by the home. Sheriff’s deputies did not offer other details on the shooting.

There were bullet holes in the front of the house and in one of the cars parked in the yard.

No arrests have been reported.
