Mother charged with murder in death of 10-year-old daughter

July 13, 2018

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) — Prosecutors have charged the mother of a malnourished 10-year-old girl who was found dead earlier this year with multiple felonies, including murder and manslaughter.

Authorities say Belladonna Loke was malnourished and starved before her death in Colesville this February. The Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin reports her mother Serina Madden was indicted Thursday at court in Binghamton on counts of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

The 30-year-old woman could face a maximum of life in prison if convicted of murder. The circumstances of the Belladonna’s death on Feb. 18 remained largely undisclosed publicly until Thursday.

Acting Public Defender Michael Baker, who represents Madden, said Thursday he did not wish to comment about the case yet.
