Duquesne 13, Georgetown 7

September 23, 1995

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Andy DeFazio scored early in the first quarter and Kris Bergman added field goals of 28 and 22 yards to give Duquesne a 13-7 victory over Georgetown on Saturday in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Duquesne (2-1, 1-0) took advantage of three turnovers and 81 penalty yards against the Hoyas (1-1, 1-1).

After DeFazio ran for 13 yards to give Duquesne a 7-0 lead, the Hoyas missed a chance to tie the score when a holding penalty wiped out a 16-yard scoring pass from Bill Ward to Christopher Smith. Dan Cunniffe then kicked wide left on a 27-yard field goal try.

Bergman’s two field goals gave the Dukes a 13-0 halftime lead.

Georgetown rallied in the second half, finally breaking through on a 22-yard touchdown pass from Ward to Joe Todisco with 11:23 remaining.

The Hoyas held, then drove from their 28 to the Duquesne 30 with under two minutes to play, but couldn’t convert on a fourth-and-11 from the 31.
