Details released for Officer Brian Shaw ride

A ride in honor of Brian Shaw, the New Kensington police officer slain last year, will be held Aug. 19, starting at Valley High School in New Kensington and ending at VFW Post 894 in Harrison.

The ride, a fundraiser for the Brian Shaw Scholarship Fund, will cover close to 50 miles through a number of communities including New Kensington, Leechburg, Allegheny Township, Gilpin, Ford City, Ford Cliff, Freeport and others.

“The ride is just a piece of this - it’s also a community event with food, entertainment, raffles, Chinese auctions, and is kid-friendly,” said Terry McClaim of Allegheny Township, president of scholarship fund.

Pre-registration deadline is Aug. 12 at $20 per rider/$30 for a rider and a passenger. After Aug. 12, registration increases to $30 per rider/$50 for a rider and a passenger.

All registrants will receive a T-shirt, ride pin and free admission to the Shaw ride celebration, from noon until 7 p.m. at the VFW, Post 894, at 894 Veterans Drive, Harrison. Admittance is $10 for people who didn’t participate in the ride but want to attend the celebration.

A free Continental breakfast will also be served to participants starting at 8:30 a.m. at Valley High School, 703 Stevenson Blvd, in New Kensington. The ride kicks off at 10 a.m. from the school.

Registration forms will be available at two upcoming events on Aug. 11:

Z & M Harley-Davidson, 6130 Route 30, in Greensburg, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., will have a table set up to accept Shaw Ride registrations and event T-shirts ($15).

A Shaw scholarship fundraising event will be held at Mogie’s Irish Pub, 3210 Leechburg Rd., from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m. with a $10 cover charge. The event will feature live bands, food, Chinese auction, Ride registrations and event T-shirts.
