State warns of heavy traffic, delays on Providence highway
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State transportation officials are warning that heavy traffic and long delays are possible on Interstate 195 West in Providence while a bridge is repaired.
The state Department of Transportation says motorists should plan extra travel time and consider alternate routes, especially during peak travel times from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The lanes on the ramp from 195 West to Interstate 95 South in Providence are reduced from two to one. The closed lane is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.
DOT says the ramp closure is needed so the department can repair an existing depression while placing and curing concrete on the ramp, and replace a bridge joint.
It’s part of the $3.2 million project to repair bridges in the Providence area.
