Bunny’s Bait Shop stars in new children’s novel

September 26, 2018

DIXON – A tempest, a tornado, a deep, black muddy crater, and buckets and buckets of worms.

“BLUE: Night Crawlers” is a 135-page historical children’s novel, set in Dixon in 1959. It follows Abilene, a 12-year-old who wants to collect buckets of night crawlers to sell to Bunny’s Bait Shop to help with her financially struggling family, and Blue, her roan stallion who comes to her rescue.

It’s a tale of growing up with a loving family and a friendship that may develop into a forever love that aims to inspire children to believe in themselves and never give up, says author Deborah Burggraaf of Palm Beach County, Florida.

She will sell and sign copies of “BLUE” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Bunny’s Bait Shop, 1024 E River Road.

Burggraaf is a retired teacher who taught sixth-graders on both coasts for 20 years. She has written several children’s picture books and other novels, and “BLUE: Night Crawlers” is a 2018 Florida Authors and Publishers Association 2018 President’s Book Award winner.

Her books are available at Books on First, 202 W. First St., at Amazon.com, and on her sites. Find @books4u2 on Instagram, Deborah Burggraaf books on Facebook or go to dburgg.com for more information.
