Women charged with shoplifting more than $1.7K in merchandise
BARBOURSVILLE — The following information was provided by police reports filed at the Barboursville Police Department:
GRAND L ARCENY: Two women are facing grand larceny charges after allegedly shoplifting more than $1,700 worth of merchandise July 22 from Barboursville Mall stores.
Germilia Crawford, 34, is charged with grand larceny. Mary Ann Horton, 61, is charged with grand larceny, obstructing and leaving the scene of an accident.
Officers responded to a shoplifting complaint at Victoria’s Secret in the mall, and were informed the suspects had struck a shopping cart and a Toyota Rav4 in the mall parking lot as they attempted to flee the scene in a Ford Expedition.
The vehicle was stopped at an apartment complex on West Mall Road. Horton initially provided a false name, but was recognized by the responding officer due to prior encounters.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle and found a tote and two shopping bags filled with merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods.
A Victoria’s Secret manager told police the suspects had thrown the merchandise allegedly stolen from the store into the mall post office and the mall parking lot before fleeing.
GRAND LARCENY: Tools and equipment were stolen from a company truck that was parked in the parking lot of a hotel in the 3500 block of U.S. 60 July 28.
The victim reported hand tools, a chain saw, cut off saw, beam lifter and a water pump missing. The total value of the missing goods is estimated at $3,800.
