Louisiana father charged in death of 7-week-old child
JENNINGS, La. (AP) — Police say a man charged in the death of his 7-week-old daughter told law enforcement he squeezed and shook the child because she’d been crying.
News outlets report Jennings police charged 32-year-old James Ray Miller with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile Monday after the child died Wednesday.
Police Chief Danny Semmes says police and emergency personnel responded to a call Monday about an unresponsive baby with a heart condition. Officers found the father performing CPR. Semmes says the child’s mother was at work during the incident and isn’t a suspect.
Authorities say the child showed signs of shaken baby syndrome, including bleeding of the brain and broken bones. Officials say some of the injuries may have been old.
Miller may face additional charges. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
