Marauders set to travel to Mohave
BULLHEAD CITY — The Marauders, who have been described as quick, will play at 7 tonight at Mohave High School against the T-birds in an Arizona Interscholastic Association 4A Grand Canyon Region game.
Mohave head coach Rudy Olvera said the Mingus High School football team is “up tempo.”
The Marauders’ record is 4-2 overall, 1-1 in region, and the T-birds’ record is 2-3 overall, 0-1 in region.
Olvera said the Marauders have “good-sized linemen” who get on the defenders quickly.
Marauders senior quarterback Antoine Zabala and senior running back Alex Nelson have “breakaway speed,” Olvera said.
Even though Zabala has breakaway speed, he throws the football more than he runs it.
Zabala has completed 85-of-141 passes for 1,227 yards for 17 TD passes and four interceptions.
Nelson has rushed for 1,042 yards on 130 carries for nine TD runs, and he also has caught seven passes for 130 yards for four more TDs.
Mohave’s offense relies on its ground game to control the ball and eat up clock. T-birds senior running back Will Robinzine has rushed for 876 yards on 128 carries for 10 TDs, and senior quarterback Brent Moore has rushed for 361 yards on 61 carries for four TDs.
The T-birds’ offense will be facing a Marauders’ defense that moves around, alternating from even to odd front-line alignments, Olvera said. They have a “good middle linebacker.”
T-birds senior linebacker Martin Salazar has 35 tackles, 17 unassisted, 3.0 for losses, to lead Mohave’s defense.
Mohave senior linebacker Julio Robles has recorded 30 tackles, 10 unassisted; and senior linebacker Anthony Arellano has chipped in 29 tackles, 13 unassisted.
