Akron receives excellence in engineering, community outreach awards

AKRON, Ohio – The city of Akron recently received the 2018 Engineering Excellence Award and the 2018 Facility Image Award from the Ohio Water Environment Association.

The city received the Engineering Excellence Award for its Akron Water Reclamation Facility’s Step Feed Phase 1 project. The project, part of the city’s long-term control plan, increased the secondary treatment process. 

The city received the Facility Image Award for its Akron Waterways Renewed! public outreach program. The program includes community events and outreach, a rain-barrel program, public trolley tours and special events designed to increase public awareness of the city’s efforts to control combined sewer overflows and update its sewer infrastructure.

The city received its awards at the One Water Conference in Columbus.
