Woman, 21, dies in building fire, owner tried to save her
BARNET, Vt. (AP) — Firefighters in Vermont say a 21-year-old woman has died in a fire at a building in Barnet.
The woman died on Thursday morning.
The Caledonian Record reports the property owner, Evan Perkins, said the woman had been staying in the building on a temporary basis. She had been employed on his farm two years ago.
Perkins said he saw the fire and tried her door, but it was locked. He got a ladder, climbed to the second floor, and broke a window, but didn’t see her. He went back down to the front door and broke it down.
Perkins said the building was full of smoke and he saw the woman lying on the floor. He dragged her out, but she was not responsive.
