Hill District man sentenced to up 34 years for 2016 killing
A man from Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood who shot another man a half dozen times in the middle of a housing complex courtyard will spend at least 17 years in prison, an Allegheny County Court judge decided Thursday.
Jarrod Dolphin, 23, was sentenced to 17 to 34 years in prison for the 2016 murder of Manly Banks III. Judge Thomas Flaherty found Dolphin guilty of third-degree murder in August after a three-day bench trial.
Police charged Dolphin Aug. 10, 2016, just hours after he shot Banks in a Northview Heights housing complex courtyard, according to the criminal complaint filed at the time. U.S. Marshals found and arrested Dolphin two months later.
A witness told police they’d been standing with Dolphin and Banks when Dolphin pulled out a gun and shot Banks six times, according to the complaint. He threatened the witness, who later picked Dolphin out of a photo array.
