Espanyol coach Javier Aguirre agrees new contract
BARCELONA, Spain (AP) — Former Mexico manager Javier Aguirre will continue at Spanish club Espanyol next season.
Aguirre and club president Joan Collet announced on Wednesday that the coach had agreed to a one-year contract extension after he joined the Barcelona-based team midway through last season.
After taking over from the fired Mauricio Pochettino, Aguirre helped Espanyol escape the drop zone and threaten for a Europa League berth.
Aguirre has also coached Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid, Osasuna and Real Zaragoza.
