Michigan’s Longe Takes Heptathlon
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Tania Longe of Michigan won the long jump and scored 5,500 points Wednesday to win the women’s heptathlon in the Penn Relays.
Courtney Ruckert of George Mason finished second with 5,181 points. Melanie Sklepko of Villanova won one of Wednesday’s events and finished in third place at 5,159.
Longe, a sophomore, won the long jump with a jump of 18 feet, 10 3/4 inches. She took second in the javelin with a throw of 132-7 and was eighth in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 27.5 seconds.
Ruckert won the 800-meter run in 2:17.87. Sklepko won the javelin with a throw of 132-11 and took second in the long jump at 17-10 1/4.
Francis Seely of UNLV was fourth with 4,927 points and Bucknell’s Norine Nadeau rounded out the top five with 4,802.
