Woodlands to begin negotiations with Waste Management for continued trash service

Jeff ForwardMay 24, 2019

Residents in The Woodlands will have to wait another few months before they’ll know how much monthly trash collection rates are going to increase under a possible new contract with Waste Management.

On Wednesday, the township board voted 5-0 to enter into negotiations for a new contract for community-wide trash and recycling services with Waste Management, the massive trash pick-up provider that has been servicing township residents for years.

What is not known is how much the trash service will cost residents. During an initial request for proposals for trash service as well as prior discussions with the company — which is the largest trash and recycling firm in the United States — Waste Management staff told township board members that the company would need to increase the per-home monthly cost of trash services from its current rate of to $10.46 per home per month, to $14.15 per month. However, between those negotiations in 2018 and this month, the increase went up to $14.51 per home per month.
